Resource of the Week - Techniques & Punctuation
Our resource this week is a very simple yet effective resource for English Language. You can download the resource via our website or by clicking here. It is a summary of language techniques (also commonly known as literary devices or rhetorical techniques) commonly used in:
Creative Writing
Descriptive techniques which students are commonly asked to employ in their own creative writing or analyse in a writer’s language.
Persuasive Writing
Techniques used to portray a point of view effectively and convincingly. Students are commonly asked to employ them in their own persuasive writing.
Structural Analysis
Analysing structure is frequently a bugbear for both student and teacher alike. These are techniques used by a writer to achieve a purpose whether this is to create clarity, set a pace, develop curiosity or create a particular atmosphere.
The resource also includes guidance regarding how to use dashes and semicolons at the end; they are two pieces of ambitious punctuation that are often overlooked as they can be replaced with simpler pieces of punctuation and yet - when used - can demonstrate a more sophisticated writing style through a greater command of language.
We hope that this resource will be used to aid any student’s language analysis as well as develop their own skills as budding writers. From all of us at Libra Education, never stop learning!
