  • Further reading and academic discussion with subject specialists

Developing the student’s knowledge of History of Art and refining their ability to discuss their subject interests with enthusiasm and confidence was essential to support their university application. They achieved a place to read History of Art at the University of Cambridge.

First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude for the Libra team (Oscar, Mark and my subject tutors) who have been working with me since last summer. I got in touch with Libra after obtaining my A level results. The outcome from my previous application cycle was less than satisfactory, therefore, I decided to reconsider my options post-results.

Throughout the weeks prior to the UCAS deadline, Oscar was extremely helpful in setting the pace of the application. For instance, setting out timelines so that nothing was created in a last-minute hurry, as well as arranging conversations with other tutors for more subject-specific advice. What I really appreciated was that my preferences were reviewed and addressed, especially with finalising the choices for courses and when fine-tuning the personal statement. Speaking for myself, I found the help I received from Libra to be very much personalised for my particular circumstances. Oscar’s insights in redrafting guidance for the personal statement stuck a good balance between helpful suggestions and my own autonomy.

In addition, Libra helped me a lot in preparing for the admission tests specific to the University of Cambridge. At the time, I was on a full-time art course and having weekly conversations with a recent History of Art graduate from Cambridge University helped me to retain academic rigour as well as getting used to discussing my opinions on subject-related readings. Two months of intensive preparation with Libra enhanced my confidence and interest in the subject, which otherwise would not have been reflected as effectively in my actual interviews and written test.
