Tuition - why initial assessments matter
Find out your strengths, your weaknesses and how to improve.
An Initial Assessment and Report are provided free of charge to each student before they sign up for our service. In order to accurately plan and provide a Results Guarantee we need to have a full picture of their current level and likely rate of progress. We provide an assessment to students and follow up with a report within 24 hours in which we recommend which tutors might work with the student and how many hours they will need in order to guarantee their results.
How we assess students
Every student is unique and so we tailor our assessments based on the skills, syllabus and level of the students so we can gain an accurate idea of the level they’re performing at and how we can help them. The assessment will always involve a 30-minute interview with one of our consultant team to discuss their motivation and interests. It’s helpful for us to start to build a relationship at this stage so that the student will always approach us with their worries, fears and successes! When working with international students, it can be helpful to have a native speaker of their mother tongue in the assessment. Our team has Mandarin, Cantonese, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Greek speakers that can assist.
As well as interviewing the student, we of course look at their current grades. Often, we can use recent pieces of schoolwork or school reports to understand how strong a student is. In some cases, we may ask the student to sit some tests if there aren’t enough materials to provide an accurate assessment.
Discussing the outcomes
Once we have carried out the assessment, we’ll write up a report and share it with the student within 24 hours. We’ll discuss our general impression, the strengths and weaknesses of the student, and conclude by making recommendations as to what we can do to help them achieve their goal. In all cases, we’ll tell you exactly what grades we think the student can achieve, and what we need to do, to make sure that happens.
Creating a plan
If you agree with our assessment, then it’s time to start working together. We’ll create a plan together and sign you up for our results guarantee. If you don’t get your grades, then you’ll get your money back.
