Essay Prizes for Medicine
ASHG DNA DAY ESSAY PRIZE
Open to students in grades 9-12 worldwide, this contest asks students to examine, question, and reflect on important concepts in genetics. Essays are expected to be well-reasoned arguments indicative of a depth of understanding of the concepts related to the essay question. The essay has a 750 word count.
CASTLE CRAIG ESSAY PRIZE
The competition is intended for all students of medicine, psychology, nursing, psychotherapy and social work. ssays should be not more than 3000 words. Essays should be academic papers including references, and may rely on personal experiences, objective opinions or a general outlook.
ROYAL SOCIETY OF MEDICINE ESSAY PRIZES
The RSM has a number of awards and prizes aimed at students. These vary in terms of word count, prize and eligibility, however, there is always a fair selection of essay prizes aimed at secondary school students. Applicants have the opportunity to present at a meeting and add to their CV.
UNOFFICIAL GUIDE TO MEDICINE ESSAY PRIZE
The competition is open to all students who are in Year 11, 12, or 13 of secondary education. The word count is 1,500 words. While all entrants receive a certificate, one winner will be selected and will receive a winner’s certificate and a copy of all the books in the UGTM series worth over £250.
NEWNHAM PSYCHOLOGICAL & BEHAVIOURAL SCIENCES PRIZE (GIRLS ONLY)
Open to all girls currently in Year 12 (Lower Sixth) at a UK school. All sources must be appropriately acknowledged and cited, and a bibliography, including all texts and websites consulted, should be included. Up to five entries may be submitted per school.
THE JOHN LOCKE INSTITUTE ESSAY COMPETITION
Entry is open to students from any country and any school. Each essay should address only one of the questions in your chosen subject category, and must not exceed 2000 words. There is a prize of £100 for the best essay, and the essay will be published on the Institute website.
