4 things to do this half term to boost your grades

Whether you are completing your final year of A levels, GCSEs or you are on a reading week at University, the October half term is a crucial point in the calendar. Half term is a window of time in which you can take steps that will result in long-term outcomes. Using half term to your advantage will put you in a good position for the rest of the year. Here are some ways that you can use the October half term.

Consolidate

Taking the time to ensure you are confident with the fundamentals of your subjects in half term will prevent you from feeling overwhelmed later in the year. Prepare revision notes on what you have covered in class and look ahead, mapping the content you will be covering across the year.

Try a new study technique

Use the time to experiment with something new whether that be a new schedule, piece of study equipment or technique. Taking the time now to watch videos and research new techniques will allow you to implement them before exams begin. Everyone studies differently and unless you try out different methods, you won’t know what works best for you. I particularly enjoyed using a standing desk in the afternoon to get me over post-lunch tiredness. The Pomodoro technique is particularly fun to try when studying with your friends, combining short, productive bursts with well-earned breaks.

Organise

During term time, it can be difficult to stay on top of your files. Take the time in half term to collect all of your papers and notes and file them away in an organised system. This applies to your electronic files, too. Successful organisation systems, implemented early in the year, are key to easily revisiting content later when your reach exams.

Reflect

Take some time to think through how you found the previous term. What went well and what could you have improved upon? Did you get a particularly impressive piece of feedback or an unexpected suggestion for improvement? Half term is a great time to action this.

Don’t forget to relax and catch up with loved ones, too. We hope you have a productive and restful half term!
