This course supports students to research career options within their interests as well as improve their English skills. The course leader will guide students on how to set career goals, how to take advantage of further education, and how to identify key subjects for their final school exams. Through the course, level II students will also learn how to write a CV and prepare for an interview. By the end of the course, students will have designed and presented their own career plan.

Learn English and explore your higher education and career pathways.

Course timings and dates:

26th-30th July 2021: 9.00-11.15 AM UK (Senior age 13-16)

23rd-27th August: 9.00-11.15 AM UK (Junior age 10-12)

9am - 11.15am UK time each day

The first session each day is from 9am-10am followed by a short break. The second session of the day begins at 10.15am and finishes at 11.15am.

The maximum number of students within each group will be 6 students.

Course requirements: 

  • A computer with good internet access. 

  • A Zoom login to access lessons. 

  • 30 minutes of independent planning tasks between sessions. 

Learning outcomes:

By the end of the course, the student will have:  

  • Improved their English skills for reading, writing, speaking and listening. 

  • Learned how to write a CV and prepare for an interview. 

  • Designed their career pathway plan. 

This course is an excellent chance for students to ponder their future career and plan to take advantage of university and career opportunities.   


Course structure

Students will complete two sessions per day

Session 1: 

 Introduction to the Modern Job Market 

Students learn about different professions. They also have a discussion on what jobs are currently the most popular and well-paid, easy or challenging. 

Session 2:  

Jobs of the Future 

Students study how job markets will change in the future: which professions will be in high demand and which will disappear as well as new jobs likely to appear in the future. 

Session 3:  

Universities at Home and Abroad 

Students study top universities around the world, what they are famous for and how to become a student there before discussing higher education at home and abroad.  

Session 4: 

Career Identification 

Students complete a short skill evaluation test to see what type of career would suit them best. Students then research which subject areas are important for their career.  

Session 5: 

Developing a CV 

Students explore key elements of writing a great CV, looking at structure, format and style of writing. By the end, students will have their own well-developed CV.  

Session 6:  

Preparing for Interview 

Students learn about interview formats and typical questions asked at interview. During the second half, students participate in interview role-play to embed their learning. 

Session 7:  

Career plan 

Students discuss their career goals and aspirations. Students examine the key elements of a career plan before working on a first draft of their career plan.  

Session 8:  

Developing a Career Plan 

With guidance from their experienced course leader, students continue working on developing their career plans.  

Session 9:  

Developing a Presentation 

Students complete their career plans using final constructive feedback from their course leader and prepare a presentation to share their career plan. 

Session 10:  

Presentations & Feedback 

Students deliver their presentations on their career plans. Students answer questions and receive constructive feedback from their course leader and peers.
