Young Finance
This course is perfect for children who are interested in learning more about the concept of ‘money’ and how to handle it. Students are taught how to make responsible financial decisions and budget for buying consumer goods. Students work on a case study for setting up a small business and study basic concepts such as profit/loss. Students are introduced to the importance of saving money and how to develop their economic prosperity. Students construct a business plan for a start-up business model to present in their final session.

Young Finance
A course to develop student understanding of money and financial management for their future.
This course is available to students under 15 who have a beginner - level understanding of finance.
Course times and dates:
16th-20th August 2021: 9.00-11.15 AM UK.
9am - 11.15am UK time each day
The first session each day is from 9am-10am followed by a short break. The second session of the day begins at 10.15am and finishes at 11.15am.
The maximum number of students within each group will be 6 students.
Course requirements:
A computer with good internet access.
Zoom with permissions enabled for students to share screen and seek remote support.
Basic understanding of how to use Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
30 minutes of independent tasks between sessions.
Loose change for counting money, colouring pencils and blank paper.
Cardboard, straws, glue and scissors for making your own piggy bank.
Learning outcomes: By the end of the course, the student will have:
• Improved their understanding of money and its uses.
• Developed an understanding of financial management and its importance.
• Created a business plan to demonstrate their understanding.
This course is an excellent chance for students to develop their passion understanding of money and prepare them for responsible financial decision making
Course structure
Each day, students will complete two sessions (one hour each in length).
Session 1:
Students are introduced to the historical and current concept of money, alongside the uses and the ways we acquire money.
Session 2:
Students study how money is spent and how consumers choose which products or services to spend money on.
Session 3:
Students study different ways of saving money and the different purposes saved money can be put towards.
Session 4:
Students learn about budgets and budgeting. Students discuss why budgeting is essential for sound financial management and how to create a budget.
Session 5:
Basic business functions: students begin their study of business by understanding the structure and construction of a business.
Session 6:
Basic business functions: students continue their study of business through studying important business interactions.
Session 7:
Business design session: students being their own creative design of a business model with support from their course leader.
Session 8:
Business logistics: students work to understand the details of their business model and evaluate their business model’s needs and budget.
Session 9:
Business impact: students work to understand how their business model would provide a service to their community and predict the future of their business.
Session 10:
Student business showcase: students present their business model to the class and discuss their future plans.
